Swango is a developing dance form that is an intoxicating and challenging
mix of Swing (Lindy, West Coast, East Coast, Carolina Shag, whatever your
thing is) and Argentine Tango.
Danced to mellow Swing music (try Ernestine Anderson's "Exactly Like You" for
starters). It is great for dancers who want to expand their
blues repertoire, and for those who want to explore the art of
improvisation. At first glance you might think Swing and Argentine Tango
appear totally different, well you'd be right, they are. However, their
very differences make the transitions possible and it turns out they have
surprising things in common! If you know some Argentine Tango take one of
your favourite (mellow) swing tunes and just dance tango to it and see what
happens. This was the starting point for many of the people like Louise
Thwaite, and Daniel Trenner.
