| List of Sites with Free Dance Videos 12/18/2001 |
|
Based on information from a couple threads from Yehoodi and Atomic Cafe, and a page by some guy named Eazy Eiran, I've compiled a list of free dance videos, broken down by type of dance, as well as descriptions of what they have there. Send in updates and more sites and I'll add them.

Yeah, it's the most simple site I have ever made, and I coded with total disregard for Netscape aesthetics, but it works for now. This bad boy is up and running. Big thanks to Geoff and Lisa Caras at The Igneous Group for letting me continue to host the site on their server. If you need any professional e-business solutions or web design services, check them out for sure.
I'm working on getting videos going on the site, which will be the bomb. For now, check out the videos on Ceech's nustudios site, and you'll have an idea of what I'm looking at doing for HHL.
And while we're on the Ceech subject, his new video, The Funk-Sion is now on sale. Let me tell you it's well worth the $20. Basically it's a video of Ceech locking/popping/boogalooing in cities around the world. At one point he goes off in the middle of an airport, without music, while people watch him confusedly. Classic.
NuStudios also has the new Popin' Pete video, which has been descibed to me as "off the hook".

If you have any links of sites, or relevant contacts that feature Hip Hop Lindy, swalsa, swango, etc... contact me and we'll get it up here. This is nothing more than a hub so throw me the info.
I am also particularly interested in posting links to sites that have free videos of swing, lindy, salsa, tango, hip hop, and other dances, in the sections featured to the left. I figure I'll post the links to the real unfiltered thing, then let the crossover happen by itself.

To avoid any confusion and controversy at the get go, let's spend some time and operationally define what we mean by Hip Hop Lindy. What is it?
Hip Hop Lindy refers crossover attempts between Hip Hop and Lindy Hop, in dance, music, culture, and styling.
By leaving this definition as loose as it is, we gain some insight into the different things people are doing under this umbrella:
- Primary Lindy dancers attempting to throw hip hop moves into their lindy.
- Hip Hop dancers dancing Lindy Hop with hip hop styling, to swing and jazz music.
- Attempting to partner dance to Hip Hop music with connection-lead improvisational moves from both Lindy and Hip Hop dance, all with hip hop styling.
To many, the last option is the most exciting prospect - exploring the possiblity of transforming hip hop dance into leadable, connection-based partner dancing. This requires a deep level of commitment to and understanding of both Hip Hop and Lindy Hop, in dance, music, culture, and style.
Hiphoplindy.com is the first and only site (to my knowledge at least) to focus exclusively on Hip Hop Lindy, as well as the other crossover forms and styles that people are pulling moves and styles from : Salsa, Argentine Tango & Latin dance, blues and west coast swing, kung fu movies and the martial arts to name a few.
Why am I doing this? I believe that while there is a real interest in these crossover forms and styles, there is very limited access to information about them, and to the people who can do them well. Swing-talk forum Yehoodi often has the Hip Hop Lindy topic eclipsing all others, so the interest is certainly there. As for access to information, if you've ever tried a web search for any of these styles, you know what I mean about the poverty of information. I hope to provide information on the new styles and the dancers who are making them happen.
The site will become a more distinct reality in the coming months, when I have time to develop it out. For now, please check out the music links for Hip Hop Lindy compiled by C Todd Lombardo and myself.
Much appreciation and many thanks go out to C Todd, who started the original hiphoplindy.com as a local site for the Lindy Hop crowd in Conneticut. Todd saw the worldwide vision I had for his local site, and has given me the opportunity to do this. Thanks also to Ellen Shapiro, who designed the graphics and logo for this site.
Thanks,
Brian Chernicky
Thanks for your support so far!!
